Swallowing Difficulty (Dysphagia)
Problems swallowing can develop anywhere from the back of the throat down to the stomach. Strictures (narrowings), webs or diverticuli (pouches) can develop in the pharynx or oesophagus. Tumours can block the swallowing passage. A common cause is dysmotility which is a lack of coordination of the muscle contractions of the swallowing mechanism.

Barium Swallow / Videofluoroscopy
Why?
To investigate swallowing problems and reflux
How?
A cup of milky liquid contrast is swallowed and X-ray video is taken.
